Congratulations on your Masters/Doctoral candidacy. During the next semester(s) you will be writing and submitting your thesis or dissertation. At this time you will or should have already (1) completed your core courses, (2) selected your committee, (3) completed your proposal, and (4) enrolled in a 799 or 999 level class. Please note that there is a process that each masters/doctoral candidate must follow in order to successfully complete and submit a thesis or dissertation. |
| Your dissertation or thesis
is a professional contribution to the scholarship of your discipline. As
with any academic publication, it is important that your paper include scholarly
content and research, is readable, and has a professional appearance. Since
dissertations and theses at Mason are cataloged and made available in the
University Libraries, and dissertations are made available through University
Microfilms International; it is in your best interest to produce a document
on which you are proud to place your name.
Mason maintains established regulations for format and appearance of all dissertations and theses. These regulations were instituted to provide a benchmark for quality and appearance of graduate papers carrying the George Mason University name. It is extremely important that all papers follow the regulations detailed in the Format and Appearance Guide. Before final submission of your dissertation or thesis; your paper will be reviewed by the Dissertation and Thesis Coordinator to make sure all regulations were followed in its preparation. Dissertations and theses which do not meet the format requirements will not be accepted until they do so. |
